In the first of the Open Talk series Three Sunshine Coast gents have come together to bring the world of Bitcoin & The Blockchain to Noosa.

"There has been a lot of media attention on people becoming rich quick from trading this ‘crypto’ currency called Bitcoin.” says Sean Bannister of Sunshine Coast Innovation & Technology Facebook group Silicon Coast.

There has also been an equal number of stories of great losses from unwary speculators losing money on subsequent ‘corrections’ or crashes just in the last few weeks.

“There has also been a small flurry of activity on the Sunshine Coast for over a year or more, simmering with interest in this new technology behind Bitcoin, which is actually an “application” that runs on something called ‘The Blockchain'”, adds Brian Keayes, former Licensee of TEDxNoosa, and Vice President of the Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance.

Jimmyz Hirst, former Nova FM radio DJ, now consulting on what our future sustainable communities look like through 4GENvillages, ventures “What we wish to do is connect a wide range of local businesses, environmentalists, and artisans in a general social information and networking event to start conversations about this new digital economy based on the blockchain – and we have organised nationally recognised speakers to come to Noosa to tell everyone about it – and this is BIG”.

In plainspeak, one day it will help you securely buy and sell a house in less than a minute; operate your own neighbourhood electricity solar powered grid; facilitate person-to-person money loans (peer-to-peer) without paying interest rates to banks, allow secure international funds transfers within seconds, vote on new legislation in government – and even vote for our new Prime Minister directly from your mobile phone.

Futurists say what this technology offers to humankind is beyond even that of the changes offered by the mainstream introduction of the Internet itself back in the 90’s – and that it could be bigger than many Internets – in fact, it IS even its own Internet.

We have two free tickets to give away and a discount code for friends of Junction 2 so tags us on social if you're keen to go!
